Supporting Accessible Employment Programs Through Canadian French Localization

Helping a national nonprofit organization deliver inclusive, bilingual employment and workforce development resources for persons with disabilities across Canada.

About CCRW

Over a five-year partnership, Art One Translations supported CCRW with the Canadian French localization of employment programs, eLearning courses, accessibility resources, and workforce development materials that serve persons with disabilities across Canada.

The Canadian Council on Rehabilitation and Work (CCRW) is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting meaningful employment opportunities for persons with disabilities.
For more than four decades, CCRW has worked with job seekers, employers, educators, governments, and community organizations to create more accessible and inclusive workplaces across Canada. Through workforce development programs, employment services, employer education initiatives, and accessibility-focused training, CCRW helps individuals overcome barriers to employment while supporting organizations in building inclusive work environments.

Because many programs are delivered nationally, bilingual communication plays an important role in ensuring equitable access to information, training, and employment resources for participants across Canada.

Over a five-year period, CCRW partnered with Art One Translations to support its growing need for high-quality Canadian French translation and localization services.

Challenge

CCRW develops a wide range of employment-related resources designed to serve diverse audiences, including:

  • Job seekers
  • Persons with disabilities
  • Employers
  • Human resources professionals
  • Educators
  • Employment service providers
  • Community organizations

The content covered a broad spectrum of topics, including:

  • Employment readiness
  • Workplace accessibility
  • Accommodation strategies
  • Career development
  • Interview preparation
  • Leadership development
  • Workplace communication
  • Conflict resolution
  • Job retention
  • Financial literacy
  • Workforce inclusion

Unlike traditional corporate training materials, CCRW’s content needed to remain accessible and understandable for individuals with varying educational backgrounds, literacy levels, and workplace experiences.

The organization specifically emphasized readability and accessibility, with guidance that participant-facing content should remain approachable and easy to understand while preserving the integrity of the information being delivered.

Consistency was another critical consideration.

Over multiple years, CCRW produced a large volume of materials across numerous programs, requiring terminology to remain consistent across forms, presentations, participant workbooks, videos, eLearning courses, surveys, and public-facing communications.

Why Accessibility Matters in Employment Communication

Employment programs are most effective when participants can easily understand and apply the information being presented.

For organizations supporting persons with disabilities, accessible communication is an essential component of service delivery.

Training materials, workplace resources, consent forms, and participant guides must communicate complex concepts in ways that are clear, inclusive, and actionable.

Language accessibility helps ensure that participants receive the same quality of information regardless of whether they access resources in English or French.

For CCRW, providing bilingual resources was an important part of supporting equitable access to employment services and workforce development opportunities.

Accessibility and Readability Considerations

Throughout the project, particular attention was given to readability and accessibility. CCRW’s participant-facing materials were designed to be understandable and practical for diverse audiences.

Translation decisions considered:

  • Plain-language communication principles
  • Readability
  • Inclusive terminology
  • Consistent messaging
  • Audience accessibility

The goal was not simply to translate content but to ensure that French-speaking participants received an experience equivalent to that of English-speaking users.

Terminology Management

Because CCRW’s content addressed specialized topics related to disability employment and workplace accessibility, maintaining consistent terminology was essential. Art One developed and maintained dedicated linguistic resources to support consistency across projects and programs. Special attention was given to terminology related to:

  • Disability employment
  • Workplace accommodations
  • Accessibility
  • Inclusion
  • Workforce participation
  • Career development
  • Employment services

Translation memories and terminology databases helped ensure that language remained consistent throughout multiple years of collaboration.
