The researchers they work with are exploring advanced technologies such as semiconductors, microelectronics, artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and virtual reality (VR), among others.

By pooling resources and sharing costs, CMC Microsystems ensures that researchers and smaller companies have access to the tools they need to innovate. Their subscription-based solutions include computer-aided design (CAD) software, streamlined access to manufacturing for working prototypes, and equipment rental for highly specialized projects.

Their clients not only stimulate Canada’s economy, but also ensure that Canada independently designs and produces advanced technologies, rather than relying on other nations.

Challenge

CMC Microsystems operates throughout Canada, and its client base includes private-sector companies and educational institutions in Quebec. Some of CMC Microsystems’ specific projects are also funded by grants from the provincial government in Quebec.

The Charter of the French Language means that French is the official language of Quebec, and organizations (including nonprofit organizations) that operate in the province must provide information and training in French.

This meant finding an expert in technical translation for advanced technologies who could support CMC Microsystems. To ensure that French-speaking users had access to the same information as English speakers, they would need to translate a variety of material, from press releases to product catalogues.

As a nonprofit organization, CMC Microsystems was also obligated to provide French translations of operating documents such as annual reports, financial statements, and strategic plans for transparency.
